snippets + tidbits that grabbed my attention
I love to share what inspires me or sparks my interest. It can be anything from quotes, street signs and what I’m hearing to cultural events and what I’m reading or listening to.
This one-minute clip of Jesse Itzler electrified me when I heard it. He is speaking about a Japanese tradition of creating a year-defining event in your life – called MISOGY. It was the inspiration for Rocket Fuel. He has inspired literally hundreds of people – maybe thousands – to come along for the ride of creating a life you love.
David Allen (@gtdguy) is one of the world’s most influential thinkers on productivity. The framework in his book ‘Getting Things Done’ is as much about teaching us how to stay relaxed and how to make space for creativity as it is about being productive. The link is to his interview with Tim Ferriss. Episode #384 of The Tim Ferriss Show.
MEA = Modern Elder Academy bills itself as “the world’s first midlife wisdom school.” I highly suggest that signing up for Chip Conley’s Daily Blog, Wisdom Well. MEA is all about navigating transitions, reframing midlife and retirement, and the actively cultivating community with cool, accomplished people. While it’s a very special place indeed, you don’t have to go to Baja or Santa Fe to become part of the community.
Nancy Aronie’s writing workshops are legendary, and she herself is a Martha Vineyard treasure. You needn’t be a writer to attend. In fact, I affectionately call a story telling experience cloaked as a writing class. Check out her site for opportunities to work with her (note: she has an upcoming workshop in Kripalu).
Sparks & Honey is a NY-based cultural intelligence consultancy working to help organizations make sense of accelerated market trends. Their proprietary, state-of-the- art AI scans a vast array of global sources, from news and a plethora of outlets. The signals are shared and discussed in a super interesting, intelligent forum called Cultural Briefings, and available for public consumption on YouTube. This is the 2024 Macro Trend Report
I feel so lucky I got to visit Uruguay for the first time, and my friend Dana sent this article called ‘The World’s Best Beach Town – You Should Go Here’ It perfectly captures the essence of stepping back in time. The visit reminded me of how refreshing a simpler way of life can be….and yes it helps that it’s 70 and sunny !
Highly recommend the Three Sundays series with David Whyte. The next one – Three Sundays in January – starts Jan 7th. I appreciate that you can listen anytime for three months, as I never make the live calls. Check it out here
Loved this interview Tim Ferriss did with Jerry Seinfeld so much, I listened to it twice. It’s excellent (btw it’s not particularly funny).
